The rainforest of the amazon jungle in Peru has the largest number of species in the world. Peru has created reserves and national parks to protect these areas and provide places for scientists to study and persons interested in travel to visit. Among the reserves set aside for these purposes is the Pacaya-Samiria Nature Reserve. The Pacaya-Samiria Reserve is located in the jungle of northern Peru in the Department of Loreto and is the largest in Peru. The Pacaya-Samiria Reserve can be reached from Tarapoto by a one hour flight in 8 passenger plane contracted specifically for our guests or for small groups we will hire a motorboat to travel from the city of Yurimaguas on the Huallaga river.

On arrival at the entrance to the Pacaya-Samiria Reserve local guides will paddle the dugout native canoes, giving you the opportunity to observe the incredible quantity of wildlife. The best time to visit the rainforest is during the dry season from June to October to see the greatest variety of mammals but the Pacaya-Samiria Reserve can be visited at any time of the year.
